COVID cases surging in Snohomish County

County discusses why cases are on the rise again

Snohomish County COVID-19 case rates as of July 31, 2021.

The COVID case rate in Snohomish County has increased for the fifth week in a row, and this one was a steep climb at nearly triple the rate five weeks ago.

The rate is now up to 198 per 100,000 population for the most recent rolling two-week period.

In a virtual briefing on Aug. 3, Executive Dave Somers and Dr. Chris Spitters provided updates on COVID cases and hospitalization rates and answering questions as to why they are increasing.

Some factors to consider regarding this trend:

• The highly contagious Delta variant is spreading,

• Not enough people are masking up in public indoor...
