Local drug possession law addressed by state

Misdemeanor on Inslee’s desk inconsistent with Mill Creek ordinance

The state Legislature passed a bill intended to fill a gap in state drug laws that was patched with ordinances in Mill Creek and Marysville.

Mill Creek’s recently passed ordinance is inconsistent with the state-level law, which suggests it may be replaced soon.

Senate and House bills 5476 were approved and the engrossed bill sits on Gov. Jay Inslee’s desk for consideration.

Grant Degginer, Mill Creek’s City Attorney, said the next steps for the City are unclear. Inslee could sign the law as is, reject parts of it, or scrap the whole thing. If the governor fails to act on the bill,...
