Edmonds grocery workers to get hazard pay

Edmonds Council approves an extra $4 an hour

More than a year after the coronavirus took hold in Edmonds, Edmonds City Councilmembers last week approved Mayor Mike Nelson's ordinance to require grocery stores with 500 or more employees statewide to provide their frontline, public-facing Edmonds employees with hazard pay of $4 per hour for each hour worked in Edmonds until Gov. Jay Inslee declares the state of emergency in Washington lifted.

Although vaccines are now being rolled out, grocery workers still face significant risk, Nelson said.
