Statewide, enrollment numbers suggest that parents of kindergarteners are delaying their education during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Enrollment in area schools has dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic as parents balance choices for education and health, and more families delay kindergarten.
The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, which oversees public schools in Washington state, said statewide enrollment dropped by 31,000 students when comparing enrollment data from the start of school years in 2019 and 2020.
Across the board, the early grades experienced larger declines in enrollment than the later grades.
