Peruvian couple stuck in Bothell due to cancelled flights

Peruvian couple, Lucy and Gregario Mendoza, traveled to the U.S. before the pandemic broke out and have been unable to return to Peru amidst it. Locals have donated to help put the couple up in a hotel until they can return to Peru.

Peru is a long way from Bothell, and that reality was clear to a couple in their 70s. The two had traveled from Peru in January and intended to return home in March, but flights were cancelled due to COVID-19. Un- comfortable extending their stay with friends by six months, the two packed their bags and left, on foot.

They ended up hanging out at a local neigh- borhood park, triggering a call from a con- cerned resident, a Snohomish County Sher- iff's Office press release said.

A deputy was dispatched and found that Lucy and Gregario did not speak any English, and they did not have anywhere...
