The vice president of a non-profit agency that promotes the importance art to a thriving community will make a special presentation is scheduled to make a special presentation during the regular meeting of the Mill Creek City Council on Tuesday, June 25.
Sarah Sidman, the vice president of Strategic Initiates for the ArtsFund, is expected to describe the critical role that arts play in the health of the community. The meeting is scheduled in the council chambers at City Hall beginning at 6p.m.
The ArtsFund released the results of a study earlier this year that illustrates how public art can create a powerful, tool that has proven to deliver a positive impact on social activities, according to Mill Creek City Councilmember John Steckler.
“Too often,” said Steckler, “the arts are an underutilized and unacknowledged part of community development strategy.”
Sidman is expected to focus on three elements the direct impact art makes on communities like Mill Creek. Those three areas are youth development, health and wellness and community vitality.
“Each of these areas is a critical component in building and maintaining strong communities,” said Steckler. “Join us in strengthening our community through art.”
ArtsFund has promoted the arts in pursuit of such a community since 1969, to assure arts are accessible to all and valued as central and critical to a healthy society
