Train to be a Domestic Violence Services volunteer

Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County is looking for volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to answer the 24/7 crisis hotline, work with the children of victims and offer support group assistance.

As these volunteers work directly with the victims of domestic violence and their children, they are required to go through training first, with the next class starting in October.

The six-week Community Education and Volunteer Training course will run from Oct. 10 to Nov. 14. Classes will be held on Mondays from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the downtown Everett location.

The classes are provided free of charge to volunteers willing to commit 10 hours of volunteer time within a six-month period for Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.

Class topics include:

• An Overview & History of Domestic Violence

• Domestic Violence & the Effects on Children

• In Her Shoes

• Domestic Violence & Drugs & Alcohol

• Safety Planning

• Sexual Assault

• Legal Advocacy

• Diversity

• Volunteer Opportunities at DVS

Light snacks and a break time will be provided.

If you’re unable to take the class but would still like to volunteer, the following opportunities to help require no training: administrative, thrift store, shelter maintenance, fundraising, community outreach and special events.
