Run-A-Muk kicks off festival season

Posted

In what is arguably the premier event on the Mukilteo calendar, the annual Lighthouse Festival is just two weeks away. The Beacon will have all the details in next week’s paper and website.

The festivities actually begin this Saturday with the annual Run-A-Muk 5K and 10K races. Runners hit the streets at 9 a.m. on 3rd Street below Rosehill Community Center.

Meanwhile, volunteers, city staff, sponsors and donors are dotting I’s and crossing T’s for the festival to be held from Friday through Sunday, Sept. 5-7, at Lighthouse Park.

Volunteers are still needed. Organizers say even if you can only help for a couple of hours, you’re encouraged to complete the volunteer application on their website at mukfest.com.

New events and a return to favored ones are on the agenda.
For example, the parade, which used to be held in Old Town but moved to Harbour Pointe years ago, is heading back down toward the waterfront.

The “Heart of Mukilteo” parade is being run by the City this year. It will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Fifth Street and Loveland Avenue. Parade watchers will be encouraged to park at Olympic View Middle School to bus down to the parade site.
Look for more information in next week’s Beacon.

Among new additions will be a drone show, slated for 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in Lighthouse Park’s boat launch area.

The popular fireworks show will be held as usual the following evening.

There is much, much more, from line dancing lessons to a children’s foam party – something different every day. It’s a great way to wrap up the summer!
