Will broadband legislation help bridge 'digital divide' locally?

No mandates for Snohomish PUD, says spokesperson

Two new laws aimed at helping bridge the so-called digital divide in Washington State took effect July 25 and lets public entities, including not-for-profit, community-owned public utility districts to provide retail broadband service to those who may not have it.

What affect will it have on Snohomish County?

"Neither House Bill 1336 or Senate Bill 5383 have a direct impact on Snohomish PUD or our customers as both bills – in varying capacity – authorize public entities to provide broadband/telecommunications services," said Kellie Stickney, a spokesperson for Snohomish County PUD.
