I started to walk outside one day last weekend, just to retrieve something I'd left in the car the night before. As I reached for the doorknob, I hesitated.

Going outside had suddenly become a decision.

We all saw the heat coming. It wasn't a surprise to anyone paying attention at all, even if the numbers seemed crazy and out of whack. The weather was going to be hot, and the tizzy began.

I was a little dismissive at first, to be honest. I've lived in western Washington for the majority of my life, nearly 40 years, and I know all about our summers. Summers aren't the only reason I live her...
