County first responders help fight wildfires

Crews assist with 3 fires that are 85% to 90% contained

A District 7 firefighter works next to a brush truck at the Pearl Hill wildfire in Colville. Two teams from the fire district joined other agencies as backup for fire service in Colville and Ellensberg. As Fire District 7 crews returned, requests were coming in to back up Oregon fire departments.

Fire District 7 is being pulled into out-of-state fires, and is also hoping to get the message to residents – adhere to the burn ban, and clear dry debris from residential property.

Fire danger is high due to dry conditions and resources are being tapped locally to fight out-of-state fires. Heather Chadwick, public information officer for District 7, said three fires have occurred in the Mill Creek area the past two weeks: two residential and one at a homeless encampment. Local fires add to already dangerous levels of smoke in the air.
