A parademic helps a young boy put on gear during Mill Creek's National Night Out event in 2016. This year's event has been canceled, although City leaders said it will look at its options to reschedule.

Another summer event has been taken off the calendar because of the COVID-19 pandemic: Mill Creek's National Night Out celebration. The event was originally scheduled for Aug. 2, but City leaders decided to cancel it due to safety concerns from a recent surge in the coronavirus.

"In the interest of community safety and in compliance with the Governor's Emergency Proclamations, the City of Mill Creek and the Mill Creek Police Department have canceled the National Night Out event scheduled for August 2, 2020. The City will look for opportunities to reschedule this important event when COVID-19 conditions and restrictions improve," the City said in a press release July 17.

National Night Out is an annual community-building event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and caring places to live all over the nation. The event's goal is to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while building a sense of community.
