Letter to the Editor | Mill Creek Rotary helping with food donations

Series: Coronavirus | Story 112

Many people are now aware that the food bank has about a one-day supply of food (rather than the three or more weeks in normal times). That means they are in constant need of donations.

The Mill Creek Rotary is conducting Drives 4 Food every other Friday until the need is reduced. Over the previous drives, they collected 15,900 pounds of food, and nearly $9,110. That takes a lot of coordination, organization, advertising, and of course, driving.

If you would like to donate money, you can go to hopecreekcf.org and use your credit or debit card to do so. Please click on the MC Rotary button. Money is used to purchase fresh produce, dairy, and meat.

All other foodstuffs and toiletries, paper supplies, etc., are through personal donations. It doesn’t matter if you have only a few things, or a car full,

Rotarians are delighted to come to your home and pick them up. You don’t have to go out. You just put your donations out to the curb before 9:00 a.m.

This is an opportunity to help those who really need your help right now. The food bank is serving 400 families – right here in the Mill Creek area. It used to be 140. They go through 40,000 pounds of food nearly every week.

The next Drive 4 Food is Friday, June 12 (and every other week after that). If you would like to request a pick-up, please email [email protected] com to provide your address and subdivision. That’s it. Rotary will take it from there. Tell your neighbors and friends.

We are not limited to “just” Mill Creek. Already are picking up from lots of areas within about 5 miles. Thank you for helping.
