Dr. Ian B. Saltzman took the oath of office on Friday, June 28, administered by outgoing Superintendent Dr. Gary Cohn in the office of the Everett Public Schools. The administrator was surrounded by family and members the EPS board, including Board President Carol Andrews and Vice President Caroline Mason. Saltzman began his three-year contract with a bus tour of the vast district on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

Dr. Ian B. Saltzman wasted no time meeting the people and reviewing the sites he will oversee as the 25th superintendent of Everett Public Schools.

The district’s top administrator spent his first day with the district taking part in the annual bus tour for new administrators. He was asked to orchestrate the monthly meeting of the school board on his second day.

“I am looking forward to getting out there and meeting people,” said Saltzman. “That is how I will learn the most and be able to help the district continue to make positive progress in the community.”

Saltzman will have big shoes to fill, according to a spokesperson for the district. He replaced Dr. Gary Cohn, who retired after leading the district for 10 years. Saltzman signed a three-year contract with the district.

“Dr. Saltzman is relationship builder,” said Board President Carol Andrews. ”He is strongly committed to ‘student first’ philosophy and has the energy and passion we were looking for in our new superintendent.”

The 120-day plan he presented to the board by Saltzman during an interview on May 29 included a significant amount of time spent listening and learning.

“There is an honesty and authentic connection he makes with people that will be a great benefit to our community,” said Andrews.

Until recently, Saltzman was the South Region Superintendent in the Palm Beach County School District in Florida. His resume list extensive experience as a special education teacher, assistant principal and as a principal.
