Free clinic to benefit ailing girl wrestler

Last updated 4/5/2019 at Noon

A fundraiser for an Edmonds-Woodway High School wrestler battling a rare childhood brain cancer is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, April 6, at Edmonds-Woodway High School.

2016 Olympic gold medalist Helen Maroulis will be conducting a free wrestling clinic to benefit Emily Hood, 17, who is currently undergoing radiation treatment for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an extremely rare childhood cancer that affects about 300 children in the United States each year.

Hood was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor on her brain stem in February. Donations for the Hood family will be accepted at the event. A GoFundMe alslo has been established for the family at: https://www.gofundme.com/help-emily-hood.
