The Glacier Peak softball team is weeks ahead of where it was last year.

That comes as no surprise since the Grizzlies return almost all of the players from last year’s district tournament squad.

“I’m impressed with the dynamic with our team,” Glacier Peak coach Stefanie Celix said. “They are already comfortable with each other. … They know they are going to be there for each other.”

Junior Kendall Curtis and senior Isabella MacMillan both pitched last season. Curtis earned second-team, all-league recognition. Freshman Makayla Miller also might figure into the pitching mix.

Senior Megan Parsley will be handling the catching duties along with the Grizzlies’ other freshman – Haley Winckler. Parley was a second-team utility player.

The defense should continue to be solid with returning junior Harlee Carpenter, a second-team shortstop and senior Abby Winckler, who earned first-team third base honors. Also back is sophomore first baseman Ashley Jacobson, a second-team selection.

The outfield includes junior Mikaela Gestson, a second-team standout.

“From top to bottom, we have both speed and power,” Celix said. “I’m feeling good about the lineup from top to bottom.”

Glacier Peak finished third in the league last season and went 2-2 in the district tournament.

“We want to come together to be the best team we can be,” Celix said.
