Former Beacon intern Marie Haaland was named to the Dean's List at Hofstra University for the Fall Quarter of 2017. The Bothell resident earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 at the liberal arts college in New York state to earn the honor.
The Bothell High alum will graduate in May with degrees in both Journalism and Political Science. She is spending her last semester in college as the copy chief for the campus newspaper, The Hofstra Chronicle, and interning with the SWNS Media Group.
“I have no set plans for after graduation,” she said. “I would love to stay in New York as an editor or come home and become a real journalist,” she said with a smile. “Where ever I can get a job in either journalism or public relations.”
Haaland earned college credit last year for her stint a reporter and editor at The Beacon, providing content to all three Beacon newspapers as well as editing proofs before each edition went to press. Marie’s article on emergency services in Snohomish County ran in the Sept. 15, 2017 issue of the Mill Creek Beacon. https://millcreekbeacon.villagesoup.com/p/new-dispatch-center-may-be-formed-from-snopac-and-snocom/1688207.
