All-girl Cub Scout den is the first of its kind in Mount Baker Council

Ten-year-old Dean Davis helps his little sister adjust her uniform before the meeting of the all-girl Cub Scout den that is part of Pack 121 that meets at Silver Lake Elementary School. Dean is accustomed to having his sister around because she has tagged along on hikes and camping trips the boys took before girls were allowed to join the Boy Scouts.

Monday nights are something that Emily Davis and her six-year-old daughter Grace will laugh about in 20 years.

That’s because Monday nights are the one day every week the mother-and-daughter combo put on their uniforms to be part of the Daisy troop of Girls Scouts that meet in the cafeteria at Silver Lake Elementary School. Then, almost in unison, the Davis girls excuse themselves from the snack table to change into their Boy Scout uniforms.

Grace and three of her energetic friends are part of the first all-girl Cub Scout den in the Mt. Baker Boy Scout Council. Emily serves as the adult...
