New summer series begins with La Santa Cecilia

Grammy award-winning La Santa Cecilia, a modern-day creative hybrid of Latin culture, rock and world music, will perform at Edmonds Center for the Arts 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 26.
La Santa Cecilia is the first show in ECA’s new Summer Engagement series.
“We’ve been looking for opportunities to engage our audiences throughout the year, outside of ECA’s regular season. The new Summer Engagement series gives us the exciting opportunity to think outside the box, and to curate a selection of diverse and dynamic artists that may be new to our community,” said Gillian Jones, director of programming.
Los Angeles-based La Santa Cecilia draws inspiration from all over the world, utilizing Pan-American rhythms including cumbia, bossa-nova, rumba, bolero, tango, jazz and klezmer music.
La Santa Cecilia won a Grammy in 2014 for Best Latin Rock album for “Treinta Dias,” and was nominated this year in the same category for “Buenaventura.”
Prior to their ECA performance, La Santa Cecilia will lead a conversation titled “Bridging the U.S.-Mexico Gap through Music.” This program runs from 6:00-6:30 pm, and will be free and open to the public.
The band will discuss its bicultural music, and why bridging the gap between the United States and Mexico is so important, particularly given the current political climate.
The artists will also describe the process surrounding La Santa Cecilia’s newest album, “Amar y Vivir,” which was recorded live over five days in the streets, bars and parks of Mexico City.
