The Glacier Peak boys soccer team returned home with some state tournament hardware for the third time in school history.

Keegan Rubio and Camron Miller each scored two goals and had two assists to lead the Grizzlies to a 5-3 victory over Central Valley in the 4A third-fourth place tournament game Saturday, May 27 at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.

Danny Guerrero scored the other goal for Glacier Peak, which finished the season 16-5-1, its first in the 4A classification.

The run to the final four was a breakthrough for the Grizzlies, who had lost the last two years in the 3A state quarterfinals.

Glacier Peak had to regroup after a gut-wrenching 3-2 shootout loss to eventual state champion Todd Beamer in a semifinal contest Friday, May 27, at Sparks Stadium. The Titans defeated Pasco 2-1 in the finals.

Todd Beamer made all three of its attempts in the shootout, while the Grizzlies weren’t able to get any shots past goalkeeper Brandon Locke.

Rubio had both of Glacier Peak’s goals, one in the first half and one in the second half.

The Grizzlies advanced to the final four with a 2-0 victory over Skyline in a state quarterfinal game Saturday, May 20 at Skyline High School. Guerrero and Owen Padilla had the goals.

Glacier Peak finished third at state in 2011 and won the state title in 2010. The Grizzlies graduate nine seniors but return a number of key players, including Rubio and Guerrero.
